Guidelines for internships
The IUPUI Career Services Council has developed guidelines specific to the university that must be followed for recruiting and hiring students from the campus.
Employers are encouraged to pay interns. If you want to post an unpaid internship, it must meet the guidelines set forth by the Fair Labor Standards Act for internship programs.
When recruiting interns, employers are expected to follow the Principles for Employment Professionals set forth by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) in their recruiting and selection practices.
Employers should also ensure compliance with EEOC laws that are designed to protect both the employer and student workers.
Third-party recruiters are welcome to recruit interns from IUPUI for their clients. The hiring company must be disclosed in the job posting. In addition, there must be no cost to the student for any services provided in the recruitment and placement process.
